# Radiator SIM Pack

> The SIM Pack adds SIM-based authentication and the full 3GPP AAA server role to Radiator: EAP-SIM, EAP-AKA and EAP-AKA' with the Diameter and MAP interfaces to the HSS and HLR, and IMSI privacy, so operators can authenticate subscribers on Wi-Fi exactly as they do on the mobile network.

**Who it is for.** Mobile operators and MVNOs delivering Wi-Fi offload, voice over Wi-Fi, in-flight and maritime connectivity, and private APN access.

**The problem.** Offloading mobile traffic to Wi-Fi only works for customers if authentication is invisible. That needs the SIM, the authentication centre and the core to agree, through protocols a general RADIUS server does not speak.

**Target outcome.** Subscribers connect to Wi-Fi and voice over Wi-Fi services automatically, authenticated by their SIM, with the operator's policy applied.

## Measures

- SIM authentication success rate
- Offload volume and session continuity
- Latency of authentication against the authentication centre

## What the pack adds

SIM-based EAP methods, the 3GPP AAA server role with the SWm, SWa and S6b interfaces, Diameter SWx, Cx, S6a and S6d towards the home subscriber server, MAP over M3UA and SIGTRAN towards the HLR and authentication centre, conversion between AKA and triplet authentication, equipment identity checks, RADIUS accounting and 3GPP authentication for entitlement servers. Identity privacy follows the Wireless Broadband Alliance specification. Full source code is supplied, and the vendor's current release adds Diameter S6a authentication and location update.

## Where it is used

Mobile Wi-Fi offload, voice over Wi-Fi through the 3GPP AAA interfaces, in-flight and cruise-ship connectivity, and private APN authentication for IoT devices with SIMs. Combined with the [Service Provider Pack](/radiator/products/radiator-service-provider-pack) and the Policy and Charging Pack for quota, QoS and prepaid control.

## Licensing

Priced on subscribers and quoted on request. See [licensing](/radiator/services/licensing).

## Questions people ask

**Does the SIM Pack support IMSI privacy?**

Yes. It encrypts the subscriber identity during SIM-based EAP authentication according to the Wireless Broadband Alliance's IMSI privacy specification, which current Android and iOS releases expect.

**Which HSS and HLR equipment does it work with?**

Radiator Software lists interoperability with Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia and ZTE subscriber databases, over Diameter SWx, Cx, S6a and S6d or MAP over SIGTRAN to the HLR and authentication centre.
